Simon Russell is an accomplished performer, composer, and teacher with 26 years of playing experience under his belt. Simon studied with jazz greats such as Rafael Grinage and Jim Grantham, professor at Berklee College of Music and author of the renowned JazzMaster Cookbook. Simon has tenured as keyboard player for the likes of Pete Escovedo and the James Brown Band, touring the USA, Mexico, and Japan in his journeys. Now he heads up his own project, Groovality, a four piece R&B/Jazz group. Simon has released three records of his music to date: Only the Lucky Ones Can Win, Bare Bones, and Say Something. "My teaching method is to get beginners acclimated with the instrument and move on from there. After they understand that there are 12 notes that repeat on the keyboard and how to locate them we move on the chord construction, how to read music, and most importantly, learning how to play songs. The songs are what keeps them engaged." Simon's experience in teaching has also lead us to recruit him be helping us to develop our next instructional book at Red House, Piano Trax. Simon will be available for piano lessons on Tuesdays, beginning November 9th, and is very excited to work with kids or adults, beginners or more advanced players. |
