Add some color and spice to your strumming by going beyond the basic open chords! You'll develop
new arrangements of your favorite songs through fingerpicking, percussive strumming, walking bass
lines and alternative chord voicings. You'll get plenty of playing time and healthy dose of music
theory, all while breathing new life into your unplugged repertoire.

Here's What We'll Cover:
ALTERNATIVE BASS MOVEMENTS
Explore alternative bass notes and walking bass lines within your progressions, all of which can be used to strengthen the melodic movement of the song.
ALTERNATIVE CHORD VOICINGS
Move up the neck and fill-in your strumming with double stops, triads and suspended voicings.
PERCUSSIVE STUMMING
No drummer, no problem. Emphasize the rhythmic elements of the song through muting, damping and thumping your axe.
FINGERSTYLE MELODIES AND PATTERNS
Same chords, new rhythms - new feel! It's amazing how arpeggios and finger picking can deliver a song's melodies and change its mood. We'll show you how.
The course will focus on using the above techniques to development your own accompaniments to your favorite songs. We'll also illustrate the techniques using songs by Bob Dylan, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, The Eagles, John Mellencamp, Van Morrison and others.
Prerequisites:
Designed for advanced beginner and intermediate guitarists. Participants should be comfortable playing their basic open chords and barre chords, and strumming basic rhythm patterns. If you need more practice on these skills, check out the 'Rhythms' Guitar Course.
